THOMASVILLE – The City of Thomasville Financial Services Department has announced the release of the 2020 Full Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

“On behalf of the City of Thomasville Financial Services Department, I am pleased to submit our 2020 Full Annual Financial Report,” said Ashley Cason, Chief Financial Officer. “The CAFR is a collection of financial statements, auditor’s reports, discussions and analyzes that provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the City’s finances.

Georgia state law requires every general purpose local government to issue a CAFR soon after its fiscal year end. Accounting requirements for CAFR are set by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

“Creating the CAFR is a tedious process that requires attention to detail and a significant amount of reporting,” said Cason. “The CAFR aims to provide assurance that the city’s financial statements are free from inaccuracies or errors.

The financial information of the City of Thomasville has an award winning history.

“For several years, the City of Thomasville has received a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association,” said Cason. “Our goal is to provide consistent and transparent accounting procedures while preparing comprehensive financial reports like these. ”

In an effort to present the city’s financial statements as transparently as possible, Mauldin & Jenkins, CPAs, a chartered accountancy firm, audited the city’s financial statements for 2020.

“This independent audit included examining the evidence supporting the amounts and information provided in the financial statements, evaluating the accounting principles used and significant estimates made by management, and evaluating the overall presentation of the financial statements. “said Cason.

“The preparation of this report would not have been possible without the dedicated service from across our financial services department, under the leadership of Ashley Cason,” said City Manager Alan Carson. “We must also thank the entire management team of the City, the various support services and our municipal council for their unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in the management of the financial operations of the City of Thomasville.
