JS agency requests financial statement on private train service


The Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Railways has requested the Ministry of Railways to submit a financial statement (revenue and expenditure) on the private train service in the country.

The committee demanded the statement during a committee meeting in the cabinet room of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Railways is to submit the financial statements at the next meeting of the committee, reads a press release issued by the public relations branch of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat.

Currently, 40 trains are operated by private operators in the country.

The committee also asked for details of the monthly and annual reports on the different types of oil used by the Ministry of Railways.

The meeting was chaired by ABM lawmaker Fazle Karim Chowdhury, chairman of the committee.

During the meeting, the committee also ordered the Ministry of Railways to work in conjunction with members of the local parliament to recover railway assets from Sayedpur railway station.

He also discussed different railway development projects including Padma Railway Bridge, Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar railway line and Khulna-Dorshona double line railway projects.

Among others, Minister of Railways Nurul Islam Sujon and Standing Committee members Asaduzzaman Noor, Md Saifuzzaman, HM Ibrahim, Gazi Mohammad Shahnawaz and Nadira Yeasmin Jolly attended the meeting.
